Hi all,
My name is Steve and my newly aquired Kombi doesn't have a name yet but she is a '75 2L auto pop top that I just brought in Melbourne last Monday and drove her to Adelaide and put her on a car transporter for Perth and flew home myself. (Will get a photo up on Kombi Konnection soon)
I now have to get her licensed in WA when she arrives.
I know I have a few mechanical issues to sort out, the main one being to replace the exhaust which I blew almost to bits climbing the grueling hills into Adelaide! I just hope I havn't done any more damage to her apart from the exhaust??
This is my first Kombi after a long search and I can't wait to drive her on camping trips. I did camp a few nights on the drive from Melbourne to Adelaide and loved it.
I have been quoted $330 for a new exhaust and was told it would take the mechanic about an hour to fit. Sounds like it is not a big job that I MIGHT be able to do myself. Any clues from members would be appreciated. I did search the KK site but couldn't find anything specific to fitting exhausts.
Thanks all, thoroughly looking forward to joining the VW runs in WA.

Glad you picked up and on way to Perth.
Sounds like you have standard across body muffler.
Have you tried Volkswest for good used one and new price as well- fairly easy to fit.

To replace the exhaust, you have to undo six nuts... it takes about ten minutes (although it is handy if you can have someone hold the exhaust while you insert and tighten the bolts). It would also be a good idea to replace the two exhaust gaskets - and be careful if you have a towbar as some exhausts may not fit. _________________ ....Woz
Rod, Yea I am using TRANSURF CONSULTANTS trading as AUTO Logistics to bring her over to WA by road. Cost $860 Depot to Depot.
I'll give a report on their service in this forum when she arrives in WA (up to 10 business days).
Yea I found the install of mufflers in a manual after posting my message. Doesn't "seem" that hard. Although I may need to get new heat exchangers also if I have done a terrible thing to her

Changing the exhaust is one of the easiest things to do on a Kombi. 6 bolts is all that holds it on. I've even progressed to removing the heat exchangers, that is easy too!
