I have a friend who has recently bought a lowlight with a "brand new Brazilian engine", I've asked her how it drives compared to a "regular" VW engine, but she doesn't know, she's never driven a kombi before and hers is a manual so she can't actually drive that either.
Soooo, anyone here had any experience with importing the Brazilian engines? Or just driving them? This is only something I have heard of in the last 6 months...

There is many 1600 Mexican engines in Australia- Kurt at Fremantle supplies and fits as does Volkswest and Auto Europe.
A friend has had one fitted by Kurt for some two years and is very happy.
The Brazilian engines are different as they are designed to run on ethanol based fuel which is compulsory in Brazil

Cost is just over $2200 plus fitting--six months ago- you need ancillaries and tinware of course.

How do they go running on WA fuel?
They don't come in 1.8 or 2L?

Only type 1 engines, no type 4.... They sound like good value, though, and will likely be more powerful (and trouble-free) than a second-hand type 4.
