I've done this as part of the restoration. It surprised me how much rust was behind the rubber seals of what looked like good condition doors. There wasn't much rust really, but when it is falling to the floor as you peel the rubbers back, and you weren't expecting any rust...
I took photos along the way to help out the next guy. I'm sorry if the photos are too large...
I've done this with the doors removed from the bus. It could be done on the buss just as easily.
First take the door pull things off. This bit is a cover for the screw, get your thin screw driver in here and prise it out.
Then take the window winder off. I have two different types. The bottom one you pop the centre out. The top one the hole plastic is one piece. The next photo shows you that this clips up by getting that screwdriver in underneath where it is recessed.
The vent piece lifts out from the top, after you unclip the bits at the top. Notice the longer clips on the bottom, and where to use that screwdriver again on the top.
You can now remove the door card by carefully levering it away from the door. The air-vent remains in place. Unscrew these from behind.
To get all the glass out to check for rust begin by removing the bolt up here.
Then peel back the felt channel to get at the screw here. Remove all the felt channel out, pull it towards the front of the bus and with luck all the clips will come with it. Otherwise prise them out with that same little screwdriver.
Next you need to remove the weather seal, but to get to that you have to detach the main glass.
Wind the window all the way down, and manoeuvre the glass as far down as possible. You need it out of the channel in the top of the door.
Back up to the top, on the inside of the door is a weather strip that is clipped in place. Get that screwdriver in there and push towards the outside of the door. The photo shows you where the clips are.
Now you want to get the quarter window out. I found that the phillips screw at the top was getting caught on this clip for the felt channel, and also on the chrome (stainless?) trim. Just bend it up a little to clear it.
The vent window should come out towards the back of the bus. I found that the end bit was getting stuck. It looks like this - now you might find it easier to get out.
The chrome trim was also held in by a series of clips.
With the vent glass and weather strip out the main glass should come out through the top easily enough by bring the top front corner out first.
Good luck, and make sure you get rid of all the rust properly the first time. Repeat every thirty years. _________________ Robert and Emma (and 4 kids so far)

Keep those pics and info coming- looks like you are doing far more than some of the restos we hear about.
It should be a magic Kombi when you have finished.
